An emergency curfew was extended Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in Santa Monica as the city announced that hundreds of businesses in Santa Monica were damaged during Sunday's unrest and looting.

Los Angeles County has moved up Sunday's countywide curfew from 8PM to 6PM. A countywide curfew, within the unincorporated and incorporated areas of Los Angeles County, is in effectfrom 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

Santa Monica and Beverly Hills have continued curfews into Monday in response to the ongoing protests sparked by the killing of George Floyd, setting 1 p.m. curfews for business districts and 4 p.m. to 5:30 a.

Following the night of chaotic protests, most stores in the business district were closed as workers were placing plywood over undamaged windows out of precaution.

Public health authorities are worried there could be a spike in coronavirus cases as thousands of people march in protests that in turn have forced some virus testing centers to close. Los Angeles County officials said Monday that plans to re-open restaurants and retail continue with the same precautions as before the widespread protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.

Officials said the military presence will remain until local officials have determined the threat of more protests and looting has passed.

Beverly Hills and Santa Monica have continued early curfews for Tuesday, with the former beginning a citywide curfew at 1 p.m. and the latter beginning its curfew at 2 p.m. Unlike Monday, the Big Blue Bus in Santa Monica is expected to run a regular weekday schedule but “may be detoured and/or delayed in areas where there are protests and demonstrations,
